REI Co-op: Made Together
Brand copywriter for the 2022 launch of Outdoor Afro Inc.’s 22-piece hike collection co-created with outdoor retailer REI Co-op. The project told a comprehensive story of how the collection helps solve unmet needs in outdoor apparel and celebrates Black joy in nature. Earned media resulted in 32 articles, including publications like Outside, Gear Junkie, Travel Channel, Essence, SELF, and Complex Magazine. Online coverage reached a total 203M unique visitors per month. Global consumer trend forecaster WGSN featured the collection in its 2025 “Big Ideas” fashion impact report. Entertainment Tonight spotted actress Ali Wong wearing the collection’s trail pants near her home in Los Angeles during April 2023.
Outdoor Afro: Year of Operations
Communications manager to rebrand the national not-for-profit 2022 website and social channels. The two-month turnaround project upgraded the .com platform to .org on a first-name basis. The digital facelift also resulted in an increase of site traffic to nearly 10K visitors monthly and attracted more than 170K followers across its social media. Designing and developing the organization’s first-ever annual report housed on the brand-new site earned the organization’s Marketing & Communications Department two first-place wins at the 2023 Outdoor Writers Association of America conference and awards.
USDA: Black Farmers’ Network
Project manager and research journalist to document nearly 30 new Black Belt Region farmer narratives. Earned media resulted in approximately 20 outlets featuring the network and select farmers, including: Clean Eating Magazine, The Ad Council, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, NPR, Thrillist, and The Nation. For the grant project, I increased the network’s Instagram audience to 15K organic followers within a three-year span.
M&C Saatchi: Together, We Go Further
Editorial stylist and creative consultant for a commissioned photo shoot with the French ad agency. As part of its 2014 art photography campaign, award-winning photographer Bryan Schutmaat joined 25 photographers from across the globe to capture a series of images that highlighted the photographers’ home countries — the culture, landscape, and heritage. Schutmaat and I collaborated to capture the Deep South fashion, beauty, and lifestyles of a few Georgia Black cowboys. The campaign published in a French exhibition and as a companion booklet.
